A $2,000 grant is available to small business entities that have a new employee who commences on or after 1 July 2015. You can receive the grant a year after the anniversary date of hiring your new employee however you must apply within 60 days of hiring the new employee.  This grant is available to full time, part time and casual employees (pro-rata for part time and casuals).

What businesses are eligible?

  • Must be registered in NSW
  • Must not be liable for payroll tax (see bottom of article for further information about payroll tax)

Who is eligible?

  • The new position must be created and then filled for at least a full year: for instance, if an employee leaves after 6 months and you hire a new employee within 30 days you can change the employee details and your business will still be eligible.
  • Your number of full-time equivalent employees must increase and be maintained over the year (if this number falls for more than 30 days during year then you may lose eligibility). For the purposes of this grant, full-time employment requires at least 35 hours work per week.

  • When to apply: you must notify the Office of State Revenue (OSR) of the new position within 60 Days
  • Currently the OSR is accepting back-dated applications but this may not last long; applications are all merit based.
